We are Navigating.art

Cultural heritage exists in databases, paper archives, books, and collections across the globe. New digital tools can help connect these separate resources, facilitate collaboration, and enhance transparency.

Navigating.art, a nonprofit organization, preserves and advances cultural heritage by equipping teams with the tools they need to create and publish digital catalogues raisonnés and archives with precision.

Everything we do is about protecting and promoting cultural heritage.

Mission

We advance art history by building digital tools and providing educational resources that help scholars publish research as standardized, interoperable, and durable data, freely accessible worldwide.

Vision

We envision a world where art historical knowledge is preserved, interconnected, and accessible to support scholarly research and engage art enthusiasts.

Our story

In 2021, a group of art historians and developers recognized the potential of new technologies to support the creation of digital catalogues raisonnés and archives for global audiences. Navigating.art has since applied digital approaches to meet the needs of institutions, which broadens access to historic materials and reduces barriers to comprehensive research.

We became a nonprofit organization in 2024, with support from the Hasso Plattner Foundation, to align its legal status with its mission to preserve and advance cultural heritage.
